Missions
Early in the project I got to spend some time architecting a mission system for our game. Making generic classes that were able to be used for missions but also achievements, player stats, and any other progress tracking systems was a fun challenge to solve.
Vivox (Proximity Chat)
As a player, I always love games that have proximity chat in them. When I got some free time, I was able to jam on integrating Vivox into Unreal Engine 5 to enable our game to have VOIP. Not only was creating the API for this system fun, but it greatly changed the way we playtested our game. Instantly becoming a hit that created many memorable moments for the team.
Emotes
During one of our game jams I worked with animation to implement an Emote wheel for our game. I was surprised with how many different systems were needed to make it happen. Creating a radial wheel with UI, recording the audio sounds, authoring the gameplay abilities to make it networked, and playing the 1p and 3p anims approprietly are all needed just to make the player wave at another. It might have become my goto intern project since it has them learn a bunch of systems while also being a lot of fun!
